Welcome to the Architecture of Consciousness Project!

The Architecture of Consciousness Project ran from 2013-2016. Although the project is now over, you can still find information about our research on this website.  You can also use the Consciousness Cloud  on your right to find interesting resources on various areas of consciousness research.

The Architecture of Consciousness was a European Research Council (ERC) funded project at the University of Manchester. The project aimed to develop a model of the structural features of consciousness and focussed on the following aspects of experience: its subjectivity, its temporality, its unity, its selectivity, and its dimensionality (that is, the relationship between the various levels of consciousness). By developing a model of the structural features of consciousness, the project aimed to bridge the gap between raw data on the one hand and a full-blown theory of consciousness on the other. Workshops were held on project themes, details of which can be found on this site.

The project was directed by Prof. Tim Bayne. The project also had two post-doctoral researchers: Dr Tom McClelland and Dr Jonathan Farrell.
